You know how I somewhat frequently post about the undesirable characters at my job, including !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? Well hopefully in the near future I might not have these pricks in my life anymore.

I'm the director of career services at a tech school. Have been since last May. This job was a $13k pay cut from my last one, but I took it anyway. I took the job because I liked the people who interviewed me, namely my boss and the people from the HQ in charge of all our campuses. I also needed to line up a job quickly, because my previous job was a contract position and ending.

Shortly after starting, I found a few surprises.

1. There is waaaaaaaayyyyy more paperwork than anyone mentioned to me during the hiring process, and the paperwork is oddly specific, yet redundant, and incomprehensible. There are periodic audits to make sure all the paperwork is properly completed to the oddly specific, redundant, and incomprehensible standards. I hate paperwork.

2. I was led to believe there would be "occasional" evening/weekend hours. They are far more frequent than "occasional."

3. While I still like my boss, several of the people who are my subordinates but do not report directly to me, are just worthless. My boss is in charge of more than just this campus, so is only here 2 days a week. There's only so much trying to correct these people's undesirable behavior I can do without involving my boss, bur she's not here enough to really be effective at reigning them in.

There are parts of it I actually like, and I genuinely care about the students succeeding in their classes and getting jobs with my help. But the aggravation really got to me towards the end of last year and I started looking for other jobs. I've definitely noticed myself coming home and venting to my gf on a regular basis about these shitheads, and well, I don't like when I have to do that.

I went to a couple interviews but nothing really came of them. So I buckled down and focused on helping the students and not sweating the persistent assholery that swirls around me on a regular basis. One of the jobs I interviewed for didn't make me an offer at the time, just emailed me, saying they had a new position, and asked if I was still interested in their company. I told them I am and I've got a follow-up call scheduled for Thursday.

Hopefully this turns into a new job with money like I used to be making and no more of these weirdos. Because sure, everywhere you go there's going to be people you don't like, but on balance, this place has the people who I dislike the most.

(My first job in the staffing business had some frankly awful managers, but also a lot of coworkers who I really liked. Here I've got a good but absent boss, a peer and a few subordinates I like, and a few subordinates who are trash. Luckily, a couple of the people who !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! have left, but others remain.)

Do you have a bachelor's degree, at least 5 years of staffing industry experience, and management experience?

Hell, I've already got too many cars for my little townhouse with its 1-car garage! The leases on my 135is and my gf's Civic both end next summer. I'm just going to turn in the BMW and drive my Grand Cherokee (which I own, not lease) as my only car for a while. She doesn't want anything particularly fancy, but would like awd, heated power seats, a sunroof, and still good gas mileage. I'll look at buying a fun car again in spring '17. I keep gravitating toward a Z4M Roadster but that's far from a guarantee at this point.

I suppose I could get a few fun things for the Jeep but it's more my comfy practical car (well, practical except for the gas mileage) so I'm not looking to throw a ton of money at it.

There are a few options out there for her and stacking your money while driving the Cherokee for a while sounds like a good plan. I won't talk you out of a Z4M but who knows what 2017 is going to look like, you might be able to find something even more bonkers around the price of a well maintained Z4M.

I'm not too worried about finding something for her. There's plenty of options that'll check off everything on her list, and be cheap to lease. It might not be quite as ridiculously cheap as the $160/month she's paying on her very base model Civic LX but we should be able to come close. So between now and next summer we'll look at the Subaru Crosstrek, Chevy Trax, Buick Encore, Mazda CX-3, Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade. Whatever she likes and has a good deal, there we go. Well, I dunno if those all have power seats, but they at least have heated seats. She's a big fan of both of those features in my cars so it'd be nice for her to get them in hers.

I can't believe I missed every single one of your Particularly Religious Coworker posts. I also can't believe she still has a job. If she got fired she wouldn't even be mad, she'd just assume it was God's plan. I bet you'd even be able to convince her to train her replacement.

I hope the new job works out!

Good luck. I hope you get everything you're looking for out of this new prospect.

But honestly I will miss reading about particularly religious co-worker. She's great! *rolls eyes*
